The Heritage Classical Academy Statement of Faith

  1. We believe in one, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and omni-benevolent God, eternal in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the only living and true God, Creator of Heaven and Earth. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 3:16-17, 28:19; John 1:14,18, 10:30, 15:26, 17:21; I Cor 8:4-6; 2 Cor. 13:14; Gal. 4:6; Eph. 2:18; Col. 1:15; Heb. 1:2-3).
  2. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the only inspired and infallible written revelation of God to man and are the supreme authority in all matters of life and faith. (Matt. 4:4; Luke 1:3-4, 21:33; John 1:1, 14, 20:30-31; Rom. 15:4; I Cor. 10:11; 2 Tim. 3:15-17; 2 Pet. :19-21; Heb. 1:1-2, 2:2-4; I John 5:13).
  3. We believe that God spoke all things into being ex nihilo in the span of six days and all very good. He maintains control over all that He has created. He sustains the universe, governs the world, supplies the needs of His people, and brings His will to pass. (Gen. 45:7; Ex. 15:18; Deut. 4:39, 10:17, 32:39; I Chr. 29:11-13; Neh. 9:6; Job 2:1-10, 34:1-41, 42.2; Ps. 24:1, 33:11, 50:10-12, 66:7, 95:3-5, 104:24, 135:6, 145:7-21; Prov. 15.3, 16:1-9, 33; Is. 42.9, 46:10; Ezek. 11:5; Dan. 4:34-35; Matt. 6:26-32, 10:29-30; John 19:11; Acts 2:23, 4:27-28, 17:25-28; Eph. 1:11, 3:10; Rom. 9:17-19; Heb. 1:3, 6:17)
  4. We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God to have dominion over the earth and to do all things to the glory of God. (Gen. 1:26-30, 2:7, 15-25; Ps. 8:4-8; Ecc. 7:29; Rom. 2:14-15; Eph. 4:24; Col. 3:10)
  5. We believe in humanity‘s universal fall into sin through Adam‘s willful transgression and in his subsequent disobedience, guilt, condemnation, and judgment before God. (Gen. 2:17, 3:1-24, 6:5; Jeremiah 17:9; Rom. 3:9-23, 5:12; 2 Cor. 11:3; Eph. 2:1-3; 2 Thess. 1:8-9; Titus 1:15)
  6. We believe in the historical man Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of the Father. He was fully God, and was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, crucified for sinners, died, was buried, and was raised bodily from the dead, and ascended to Heaven. He shall return bodily in power and glory, to judge the living and the dead and to submit all things to the Father. (Deut. 18:15; Ps. 2:6; Is. 9:6-7, 42:1, 53; John 3:16; Luke 1:33-35; 21:27-28, 24:6; Acts 1:11, 2:29-36, 3:20, 22, 17:31; Rom. 5:8-10; 1 Cor. 1:30; 2 Cor. 5:21; Gal. 4:4-5; Eph. 1:4, 5:23; Phil. 2:6-8; Col. 1:13; I Tim. 2:5-6; Titus 2:13; Heb. 1:2-3, 5:5-6; I Pet. 1:17-21)
  7. We believe in the necessity of the work of the Holy Spirit to apply the benefits of Christ redemption to individual sinners, working in them regeneration, faith, belief repentance, sanctification, and glorification. (Deut. 30:6; Ez. 11:9, 36:26-27; John 3:5, 6:37, 44-45; Acts 13:48, 16:14, 26:18; Rom. 10:17; I Cor. 2:10,12; 2 Cor. 3:3, 4:6; Eph. 1:5,11, 17-18, 2:1-10; Phil. 1:29; 2 Thess. 2:13-14; 2 Tim. 1:9-10, 2:24; Titus 3:5; Js. 1:18; I Pet. 1:23, 2:9)
  8. We believe that God by His grace restores to Himself and to His service all, who in true faith, call on the name of Jesus Christ; that the Lord Jesus ransomed for Himself a people from every tribe, language, people and nation. (John 3:16-21, 6:36-44; Acts 16:30-33; Rom. 10:9-10; I Cor. 5:9-10; Eph. 2:13, 5:21-33; Rev. 5:9)
  9. We believe in the one holy and catholic church, composed of all regenerated believers, which Christ the Lord and Head gathers, preserves, and defends for Himself, by His Spirit, empowered by the Word of God, sealed in the sacraments. (Matt. 16:18-19; Acts 2: 1-4; Rom. 9-11; 12:1-8; 1 Cor. 11: 20-34; 12:12-31; Eph. 1:10, 20-23, 2.11-22, 5:23, 27, 32; Col. 1:18; 2:11-13, 19; Heb. 4.12).
  10. We believe God has appointed a day to judge the world by Jesus Christ, Who has all power and judgment from the Father. For then shall the righteous go into everlasting life, and receive that fullness of joy and refreshing, which shall come from the presence of the Lord; but the wicked shall be cast into eternal torments, and be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power. (Eccl. 12:14; Matt. 12:36-37, 25:21, 31-46; Mark 9.48; John 5:22, 27; Acts 3:19, 17:31; Rom. 2:5-6, 16, 9:22-23; 14:10, 12; 2 Cor. 5:10; 2 Thess. 1:7-10; 2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 1:6)
  11. We believe Christian children are heirs to the covenant promises to Abraham, through Christ, and are therefore set apart unto God; hence, parents are to educate their children in the fear and knowledge of God and train them in His commands. (Gen. 26:4; Deut. 6.4-9; Ps. 78.1-8; Mal. 2:15; Matt. 19:13; Acts 2.39; Gal. 3:27, 29; 1 Cor. 7:14)
  12. We believe and confess that in things essential, Christians are to be unified; that in things non-essential, Christians have liberty of conscience; and that in all things Christians demonstrate charity. "In necessariis unitas, in dubiis libertas, in omnibus autem caritas" (St. Augustine).
