Introduction

HCA desires to impact the Lakelands area by raising the standard in education. We want to see students successful and we believe the Trivium is the long-lost means by which this goal can be accomplished. HCA will admit any student of any Christian denomination, race, color, national or ethnic origin and will not discriminate in our educational and admissions policies, tuition aid programs or any other school programs.

Curriculum

HCA offers a rigorous and disciplined education, which aids in producing self-disciplined students. Classical education does not prepare a student for a "job track" (a socialist idea), but any job. Classically trained students are prepared to learn anything, not specifically one thing. A well-eduated mind can accomplish any educaitonal end, not simply fill a place in the work force. Children are taught to respect each other and those in authority over them.

Our curriculum is provided by Veritas Press. It includes Shurley Grammar, Saxon Math, Cambridge Latin, Canon Logic, Memoria Rhetoric, and Veritas Press' Omnibus (History, Literature and Theology). In addition, we will be using the Institute for Excellence in Writing and Spelling for writing skills and composition. As noted elsewhere, we are partnering with the local YMCA for our PE curriculum. Our PE and health curriculum will emphasize good physical health, nutrition and protocol (manners and social graces). We use uniforms to curb the desire to self-exploitation and the temptation to view others less than ourselves.

We believe education is theological in nature; hence, we emphasize certain concepts inherent in our statement of faith:

We are...

Christian (followers of Jesus Christ)

Covenantal (families at HCA should seek to live what they confess they believe), and

Classical (cherishing the Trivium as a means of learning the great Western tradition)

...for the glory of God

Mission Statement

HCA desires to covenant with parents to cultivate in their children excellence in self-discipline, character, love for God, His church, the family and community and enable them to be life-long learners to glorify God in all areas of life.

Vision

HCA seeks to be part of a renaissance in the lives of Christian families, their children and local culture; to educate the whole person through the vehicle of classical education; to see again the Christendom that made western civilization great by the seed, progress and spread of the Word of God; that Christian scholars may again rise to the fore of those that influence culture, that "...the earth may be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea" (Isaiah 11:9)

Religious Affiliation

HCA not affiliated with a specific church or Christian denomination. Though we are meeting at Rock Presbyterian Church, HCA independent of the church. We are specifically Protestant, though consciously catholic. The Christian religion teaches that all Trinitarian baptized persons are members of Christ's church; we acknowledge our common catholicity with all believers in all Christian denominations throughout the world. HCA emphasizes the sufficiency of Scripture for all people and saving faith as a gift from God. We recognize that the Christian faith is broader than any denomination.
